About

Welcome to Everyday Matters!

This blog is to share inspiration, observations and positive thoughts, information about home management, health and fitness tips and other stuff that comes up along the way.

I am also available for freelance writing for blogs, web site content and print articles. Visit My Work page and let me know what  you have in mind.

A bit about me:

I live in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. I love to look after my house, garden, husband and two Siberian Huskies.  I’m the mother of two beautiful children who are grown and on their own.

I’ve taught yoga for nine years and was a personal trainer and healthy living workshop presenter for several years. I’ve had a few small businesses including Purple Rose Designs – handmade fabric gift bags (before you could buy them everywhere) and velvet shoe bags which were on consignment at specialty stores throughout Nova Scotia. My husband often teased me about what new venture I might decide to start up next. Once he suggested I might be a dentist. Needless to say, he’s been very supportive.

I’m a vegetarian (with some dairy) and I eat mostly raw foods. My husband likes meat and potatoes and so we rarely eat the same foods. I’ve become quite efficient at preparing two different meals every night.

Some (interesting) things I’ve done:

Been married for a quarter of a century, climbed Mount Katahdin in Maine three times, flew over it by helicopter once, hosted a local television show called My Backyard on environmental issues for two years, worked as a freelance reporter for the Halifax Herald and weekly columnist for two other newspapers for several years and ran a marathon when I was 39.

Please subscribe to my blog and keep in touch. Thanks for visiting!

Hi Chrissy, so happy that I can follow your blog. Good idea to combine the two! I also am vegetarian (31 years this January) and I too am proficient at preparing two meals at once; my husband and I rarely eat the same. I wish it was not so, but it is. And thank you for the Christmas card! Violet.

    Hi Chrissy,

I’m trying to cut back on my coffee drinking, but I really like it! Not for the caffeine, but because I like making it, and trying different flavors and having something hot to drink. BUT I don’t really like tea very much, so do you have any recommendations about what I can trade my coffee for?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Laura,
One thing I do is mix half French Vanilla instant coffee and half coffee substitute like Caf-lib which is a grain drink with barley found in the coffee and tea section of the grocery store. I think this is healthier than decaf. You still get that rich coffee flavor but not full strength coffee. You might even like it alone. Or try different types of herb tea. There are so many types like ginger that are not at all boring. Let me know how it’s going! Chrissy.

  3. Hi Chrissy,
Your life sounds fascinating! I am just getting into blogging and yoga, and I like to think I am a healthy person. I am excited to follow your blog and learn more about each of these things from you!
